Jenny Holzer
Jenny is an American conceptual artist based in New York. The main focus of her work is the delivery of words and ideas in public spaces. These words or phases should inspire and influence people. Her large-scale installations have included advertising billboards, projections on buildings and other architectural structures. She would project light instillation in public places and would explore the relationship between text and image.
I belive that Jenny's work is inspiring because the words used make you think and involve world problems that are happening in the moment. I am planing to use the idea of prjection and lettering in my final piece for this project.

Kumi Yamashita
Kumi Yamashita is a Japanese artist who sculpts original, stunning art pieces using light and shadow. She uses single or multiple objects, which are placed at certain distances from a single light source. A shadow is created and reflected onto a wall to create an interesting and bold piece of artwork. Some of Yumi's silhouette's look like ordinary shadows, however they are created using a variety of everyday objects. I like this idea because it shows an orginal concept of how to create a human shadow in a unique way. Yumi states 'I’m constantly experimenting, trying different ways of creating pieces and figuring out what will work the best.’ The quote vividly links to my idea of creating a light box and trying out different materials. I will be constantly experimenting with reflective materials and different light sources.

Ian Hobson
Ian is an artist who uses the theme of light within his artwork. He explores the painting with light technique and develops various relationships between time, space, light and mind. He also incorporates aspects of science, which he has previously learnt. Ian states that 'The light paintings are never digitally manipulated', this suggests that he uses a variety of coloured light sources to create the vivid effect. Some of the backgrounds in Ian's work are visible, highlighting the manner in which the lightforms dont exist. This creates a surreal atmosphere for the audience to concentrate on.
I think that Ian's work is very inspiring becuase of the vivid shapes and colours he used to create a distinctive piece of artwork. I like the way that some of his piece's create depth, as if there is something happening in the distance. As well as using art to paint with light he also uses photography to capture the movement and dirrection of light.

Jennifer West
Jennifer west is an American artist who lives in LA. She is known for her digitalized films that she creates by manipulating film celluloid. She also takes photographs with the film celluloid effect to create striking scenes of peoples shadows in different environments. I really like this unique idea of image manimpulation and might try and recreate some of my own photographs with the assotate slides that I have created.
Jennifer also creates films with this film celluloid effect to create a vivid atmosphere. She is best known for the damaged 58 minute, 40 second film that was shown as a digital projection onto the side of a building on the High Line. This gave Jennifer the opportunity to share her artwork with a whole city of people.
Overall I think that jennifer's work is very inspiring and has given me a variety of ideas to work and experiment with in this project.
