In this workshop we experimented with a variety of lighting that we could use when capturing portraits.

Tutorial

I took part in a group tutorial that I found very useful becuase we were able to give each other ideas and inspiration for their project. I was given useful ideas that I can develop throughout my project e.g. to continue with portraiture, to add text/facts and to research about young drivers. I feel that documenting young drivers is a big thing to do however what I did take away from this tutorial was that I could just document a portrait of them, with their car. I felt like I didnt want to make this project too saddening but I want to make it more about the positives of young drivers. So I thought about documenting portraits, which would give clues to the audience about the driver.

Experimentations

This was the first lighting experiment that I explored. I felt like this lighting was a lot more natural becuase it wasnt really used to highlight sertain parts of the model. However, it did create a vivid focal point of the model.

Ring Light Experiment

I feel like the ring light was my faveourite lighting to work with because it can be used to light up a certain area when capturing portraits. It creates a spotlight effect which creates a dramatic effect on the photograph. I also used the ring light to create a vivid focal point of the model against the background. If I were to continue with portraiture I would experiment more with this lighting because it helps create a very striking image.

Snoot Experiment

I think that the snoot lighting was quite challenging to work but when positioned correctly it gave a spotlight effect. Also the snoot worked well when positioned over the models head becuase it lit up areas of the models face that wouldnt of nessesarily been lit by natural light. If I were to continue with portraiture I would maybe experiment more with this lighting but only in darker environments.
