Madeline Waller is an Australlian photographer, who now lives in London. Madeleine started her photographic career working for newspapers and magazines on a broad range of topics. She works within the documentary portraiture style to convey a group of people in a unique way. Her style and approachs she has made in some of her projects have inspired me to experiment with this project in an orginal way, that would suit my subject matter.
The portraiture project that has inspired me is called 'Wet and Dry', this is where madeline photographed a swimming group. She captured two photographs, one where the swimmer was in their costume. In this photograph the person can come across as quite vulnerable becuase of the way they are standing and what they are wearing. The second photograph that madeline captured was of the same swimmer dressed, showing their personality in a differently. I feel that comparing the two photographs shows many differences that can be noticed straight away through body language.
Madeline Waller is one of my main inspirations for this portraiture project becuase she compares two photographs of the same person, showing diifferent charcteristics. This idea has influenced me to pick a unique subject/group that will give viewers interesting focal points.
Madeline waller was interviewed about this project and explained why she chose to photograph a swimming group.
"I'm always struck by how swimmers have a different persona in the pool," Waller says. "I wanted to document this incredible transformation."
