Phillip Toledano is a documentary photographer who created the project 'When I was six' that has inspired me, when thinking about my B&B project. This project of his documents his sisters life after she had passed away. Phillip didn't know much about his sister but he discovered her belongings after his parents had passed away. He decided to capture these unusual belonging to create a vivid image of her personality and charcteristics. The lighting technique that he used has inspired me to experiment with lighting equipment to create a soft and delicate effect. I like the way that the lighting used is very striking but creates a soft atmosphere and could create suggestions of emotional qualities that phillip was feeling.
In my project I am going to concentrate on experimenting with studio and natural lighting to create the correct atmosphere wanted to convey English B&B's. I want the lighting that I use to create a subtle, soft atmosphere to show something that is slowing fading away. In a way the lighting that Phillip uses creates a natural feel as he wants to document something that is personal to him. The personal aspect vividly comes through his work and defines his project of having a meaning that he will only understand. However, he has photographed certain important qualities of his sister that he would like to share with his audience. I am also inspired by his technique of capturing single objects, which is an approach that I might consider when looking at details in B&B's.

Bankurpt
Another project of Phillip Toledano's that has been inspirational for my final project is 'Bankurpt'. This project I feel best suits my ideas because of the way he captures offices that reveal traces of humans and can create the idea of identity. This is the approach that I want to consider capturing in my next shoot, showing Birtish identity. The offices captured are very messy, which could create the idea that they could be left and abandoned. However, he has also photographed a few portraits in the offices, which I believe creates ideas about personal identities such as personality qualities. I like the way he has used minimalism to photograph simple aspects of the offices and uses natural light to highlight this. Overall, this project has defnately influenced my idea concepts and has helped me to understand more how I am going to capture traces of humans.
