Matt Burgess is a British photographer who's project 'Details' has inspired me within this project. This project of his shows B&B's in an unsual way that creates mystery of the place, even the outside environment. Researching this project is definatley going to help with my development because it gives me a clear insight of how to approach photographing B&B's. The way he has photographed the B&B creates the idea that traces of people have been left in the room and gives the images a sense of britishness even though their aren't obvious icon objects to reflect this. I really like this approach because viewers can make suggestions to what kind of people has stayed in that room and can create identity responses. The photographs are a simple creation that I feel clearly document a B&B environment and create mystery through subtle human traces. Within my project I want to create a clear theme of identity and even class which can be discovered through decor and interiors. Matt has been one of my main inspirations through the simple imagery that create realistic themes, through the way human identity can be formed in each image separtely.
Matt has used natural lighting to create a soft, subtle atmosphere that can create ideas about the place and environment surrounding. The lighting gives the image a delicate emotional effect that can have impact of the audience, when analysing the images. In my project I want to use natural light because I want to create a soft atmosphere that shows traces of human interaction. I believe that the way the light is directed onto the object creates vivid annotations about the environment and even the location of the B&B. I think that the location of the B&B is also an important aspect of my project because the interiors could give the audience clues about the location without displaying the surrounding environment.
