This is my third photoshoot of a old fashioned English B&B. I believe that this B&B is a lot more what I wanted and vividly links to my project proposal. This is because the interiors/designs creates the idea of old English, which is what I want to show within my project. I wanted my photographs to reflect Englishness and I feel photographing an older B&B will get this idea across to the audience through the decor/interiors and even the owner. I wanted to document an old B&B because I feel that they are dieing out and aren't recognised or even remembered as much anymore. I believe that a variety of english aspects can be identified from this shoot including, class, identity and era. Overall, I feel that this shoot has been a challenge but I think that it vividly shows English identity and strongly connects to my project aims and intentions.
I experimented with a variety of camera techniques. These included low and high depth of field, which I used to create points of focus and to highlight items that I think reflect the idea of Englishness. In this B&B the natural lighting was great, so I tried to use this as much as possible when capturing details. I was able to gain access to bay windows that lit the whole room and created an amazingly soft atmosphere. I felt that the natural lighting gave the images a delicate feel to something that is becoming non existent anymore. I was going to experiment using the Nikon speedlight for portraits but I felt like the natural lighting was strong enough to highlight the owner. I feel that the portraits are a great way of showing who owns the buisness and gives the audience an insight into the type of people that own the older B&B's.
Overall, I believe that the technique has been strong in this shoot, by exploring camera settings and lighting. I am definately going to continue with the use of natural light because I believe that it creates a soft atmosphere that I want to convey, within older B&B's. This is because I think that they are a delicate aspect of England that might soon completely disappear. I also feel that some of the images convey a personal feel because of the history behind the buisness and also becuase of how I am documenting my experinece of staying there. This shoot has definitely shown vividly what I want to convey within this project and strongly links back to my proposal. I am definitley going to consider using this shoot for my final outcome because it strongly highlights the theme of Englishness and identity. I think that I have enough images to just base my outcome on this B&B and show a documentation of my experience through a photobook style.I believe that the main problem that occured when doing this shoot was with the camera. I felt that when capturing close up images it was difficult to create a strong focus point. To overcome this problem I kept practising with the focus on close up object before capturing.
