The technical aspects have been very important within my project because they have helped me to improve the quality of my photographs and make them more interesting for the audience. Depth of field is a technique that I have experimented with to create vivid focal points within my photographs. I love the atmosphere it creates with soft focus in parts of the frame. I used this technique to highlight objects that reflect Englishness and to help create ambiguity in relation to the meaning of the picture. An article I found explored depth of field in very unique way by using reflections in the mirror to create different perspectives and extended distances. The mirror shot as discussed in this article is used in a lot of old British films including, 'the servant'. I explored this technique in my own photography to see how persepective can change perceptions of the room and how objects are place in the camera frame. I got the idea from this becuase in the 'chatsworth hotel' there were lots of mirrors that I feel reflected Englishness as well as improving the sizes of the rooms. The use of mirrors show different reflections of what is on the other side of the room, so I chose to capture these because I wanted to show a truthful representation of particlars that reflected English themes. This article reveals black and white mirror imagery, which I didn't want to do because colour within the B&B was an important part of the design.
